The Super Six Challenge!!

Postby Kate Gallop » Wed Dec 10, 2008 12:46 pm

Hi Everybody,

As some people in the club may be aware, a group of 6 of us will be completing an enormous challenge in the summer of 2009, The Super Six challenge consisting of 3 hills and 3 lakes. You may have heard some of us talking about this, or Dave telling everybody he can, but we want to share this with the whole club as we are yet to decide our final team of 6 people.

The Challenge: We will climb Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon, and swim across Loch Lomond, Lake Windemere and Laka Bala as one continuous event, with resting times being the travel times. The challenge will start at Ben Nevis, then going on to swim Lomond, then down to Scarfel and Windemere, then down to Snowdon and completing the challenge with Bala. This will be tough, and we have a 'no wetsuit' rule which will be the toughtest thing to oversome, but we are confident that it can be achieved.

We aim to do the challenge next summer, with plenty of training weekends and meetings brforehand to organise and get fit! We will have a support team of 3 people, they will do the driving, cooking and encouraging while we are doing the challenge.

The team so far consists of Katie Winter, Catie Smith and myself. We have Anna Taylor and Debbie Tout who are very interested and we need to find another few people who could do the challenge or act as support/reserves for the team. Dave Q, Paul Barratt and Dan The Man are going to be our support team but we would not turn down other offers, the more the merrier!

So, if this sounds interesting to you and you would like to find out a bit more about it, or possibly get totally involved then here is your chance. On Tuesday evening (16th Dec) at Moss Side pool are going to hold a (very informal) meeting and do a small presentation talking about the challenge and what it involves to let people know about that challenge. We will do this after training at 8pm in the room upstairs and it will last for approx. 30 mins depending. ANYBODY IS WELCOME TO COME ALONG!!!

We are holding this meeting because we need to get a team sorted asap, but also we want everybody to be aware of exactly what is involved and the kind of training that we will need to put in. So just by coming along to the meeting does not mean that you have committed yourselves.

If you cant make tuesday and you are interested then do not worry! Send me an email ( and just let me know. Alternatively, on Thursday (18th) after training at the MAC we will have a brief meeting for those who couldnt make tuesday. This will probably be in the pub with mince pies so nothing formal but again just a good way to register your interest with us.

OK thats about all!
